7 CARD STUD
Download7 Card Stud is an iconic poker game, a unique and timeless classic played without “community” cards.
7 Card Stud Ground Rules:
Each player is dealt a combination of seven cards, four face-up and three face-down, from which he forms a five-card hand.
In 7 Card Stud games there are no fixed positions, resulting in each round opening with a different player. Two bet limits are available in fixed games.
The 7 Card Stud Table:
Each table can accommodate up to eight players, excluding the virtual dealer.
Mandatory bets known as the "Ante" and "Bring-in" are included in many 7 Card Stud games.
Ante: The ante is similar to the blinds in Texas Hold’em, contributed to ensure there is money in the pot before the cards are dealt. The amount of the ante is equivalent to a proportion of the lower table stake.
Bring-in: The bring-in functions as a forced bet in the first round of betting. It is equivalent to a fraction of the total bet. Like the ‘Ante’,the ‘Bring-in’ guarantees that there will be money in the pot.
Hole Cards: There are two hole cards dealt face-down to each player. In addition, one further card is also dealt face-up to every player.
Betting Rounds:
Round 1 - ‘3rd Street’
As we have noted, each player is dealt a combination of three cards. The third, face-up card, is known as the ‘3rd Street’.
The betting round opens with the player holding the lowest ranked ‘3rd Street’ (often referred to as the ‘door card’). If two or more players display cards of similar value, then suit is used to determine rank. The ranking order for suits, from highest to lowest, is as follows: clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades.
If 7 Card Stud is played with a ‘Bring-in’, the player with the lowest ranked face-up card posts it now. Should the next immediate player post a complete bet (remember, the Bring-in is only a fraction of the complete bet) and the first player (i.e. the one who made the Bring-in) decides to call, then he must make up the difference to ensure his bet is complete.
Round 2 - ‘4th Street’
Each player is dealt a fourth card, also face-up. This card is called the ‘4th Street’.
The betting round opens with the highest ranked ‘4th Street’. There are no ‘Bring-in’ bets at this stage, but if any players two face-up cards now form a pair, then any player may make a bet equal to the game’s higher betting limit, which remains in effect throughout the following betting rounds.
Round 3 - ‘5thStreet’
Each player is dealt a fifth card, also face-up. This card is called the ‘5th Street’.
The betting round opens with the highest ranked ‘5th Street’. There are no ‘Bring-in’ bets, though players must post Higher Limit bets from this stage forward.
Round 4 – ‘6th Street’
Each player is dealt a sixth card, also face-up. This card is called the ‘6th Street’.
Round 4 of betting follows the same rules as in Round 2 and Round 3 above. The betting round opens with the highest-ranked ‘6th Street’ card.
Round 5- ‘The River’
Each player is dealt a seventh and final card, ‘The River’, which is dealt-face down.
The betting round opens with the highest ranked four-card hand and follows the same rules as Round 4.
The Showdown:
The best ranked hand at the table wins the pot. Should you choose to fold, you do not have to show your cards. If, however, you are the last player to bet or raise, then you must display your five-card hand on the table. At this point, all the revealed hands are ranked. The player with the highest five-card hand takes the pot.
