BLACKJACK SURRENDER RULES

Download

As is the case in standard blackjack, the goal in blackjack surrender is to build a hand totaling as close to 21 as possible without going over (with a natural 21 being your ultimate goal), and of higher value than the dealer’s hand. Face cards are worth 10, aces either 1 or 11 and the remaining cards their numerical value.

If you are dealt an ace plus a card valued at 10, you have blackjack with a payout of 150% (£2.50 on a £1 bet). If you beat the dealer with a hand closer in value to 21 you win your bet amount (£2 on a £1 bet). If you go over 21 you bust and lose your bet. If you and the dealer tie with equal hands over 17 you push (and your bet is returned to you).

The big difference between blackjack surrender and standard blackjack is that you have the option to surrender after being dealt your first two cards, once the dealer has checked for blackjack. If you surrender, the round is over and you lose half your bet.

Split:

If you are dealt two cards of the same value you can split them by placing a second bet (equal to your first) and then play them as two separate hands. If you split aces, keep in mind you can only draw one more card per hand, otherwise you can keep hitting as usual. If you get an ace plus a 10 value card on one of your hands it is considered a 21 and not blackjack.

Double:

You can double your bet after being dealt your initial two cards if you think your next card will have you beating the dealer’s hand.

Insurance:

You can get insurance against the dealer having blackjack if the dealer shows an ace in his initial hand. Insurance costs half your original bet sum. If the dealer has blackjack you receive a rate of 2 to 1 on your insurance (getting your insurance money back plus 2X half your original bet), so that you do not lose your original bet. If the dealer doesn’t have blackjack, you lose your insurance money, no matter the final outcome of the round.

7 Card Charlie:

If you draw seven cards without busting (which is possible), you automatically win, unless of course the dealer has blackjack.

Winnings:

  Pays
Blackjack 3 to 2
Winning hand 1 to 1
Insurance 2 to 1

Exceptions to the Standard ‘Las Vegas Strip’ Rules:

At Littlewoods, we follow the standard 'Las Vegas Strip' blackjack rules. The exceptions are:

  • Cards are collected and the deck is shuffled between each round.

  • You cannot further split a split hand.

  •  Only one card is drawn (per hand) if aces are split.

  • You can double after splitting.

  • The dealer checks for blackjack if showing an ace or card with a 10 value.

The Basics:

The aim of blackjack is to beat the dealer by building a hand as close to 21 as possible (preferably the magical 21 itself), higher than the dealer’s and without going over.  If you do so, you win.

The easiest way to win is to be dealt a blackjack, that is an ace plus a card valued at 10 (which includes all face cards).

Each time you want another card you ‘hit’.

If you go over 21 in the process you ‘bust’ and lose your bet.

If the dealer has a better hand then you, you also lose. If you tie with the dealer with a hand value of 17 or more then you get your money back in what’s called a ‘push’.

Insurance:

If the dealer shows an ace in their initial hand you can insure your bet by placing an additional sum of half your original bet value on the table. Ifr d the dealer has blackjack you receive payment of 2 to 1 on your insurance. In other words you get your insurance money back plus 2X half your original bet. If the dealer doesn’t have blackjack you lose your insurance money.

Double:

If after being dealt two cards you think you will beat the dealer with your third card, you can double your bet.

Split:

If the first two cards you’re dealt are of the same value, then you can split them into two separate hands. Keep in mind, in doing so you will have to place a bet of the same value (as your first bet) on your second hand. The game then proceeds as normal from there, with you drawing cards until you’re satisfied with your hand.

If you split aces you receive only one extra card per hand. If you receive a card value of 10 as your second card, your hand is considered a 21 and not blackjack.

10 Card Charlie:

Here’s a fun little fact. If you draw 10 cards without going bust (it is mathematically possible), you automatically win, unless of course the dealer has blackjack.

Winnings:

  Pays
Blackjack 3 to 2
Winning hand 1 to 1
Insurance 2 to 1

Exceptions to the Standard ‘Las Vegas Strip’ Rules:

Littlewoods adheres to the standard rules with the following exceptions:
  • The cards are returned to the deck and shuffled after each round.

  • A split hand may not be split again by the player.

  • You can draw only one card if you split your aces.

  • You may double after splitting.

  • The dealer does not check for blackjack.

  • If you double after the dealer’s first card is revealed to be an ace, which in turn proves to be a blackjack hand, you lose both of your bets. If, however, the dealer first shows a card valued at 10 and then shows an ace for blackjack, you get your double back.
